(I realize this is one of those topics that seems simple and is anything but.)
I have my settings for phone umber format set to “US domestic” FWIW.
Sometimes phone numbers get entered into the LACRM either from copy/paste or from an automated source that are not in US standard format. Some include the +1. Some don’t have any formatting (8455551212). Some use only dashes and no parens (845-555-1212). Some have dialing pauses (,) or hash signs (#) included.
The display setting doesn’t seem to have any effect on how phone numbers show up in the CRM - they always seem to show exactly as entered. Does the display setting actually do anything right now?
That display setting should change phone numbers to be formatted as (123) 456-7890, but there are a couple of caveats there. Formatting will only be applied to numbers that have 7 or 10 digits, if you have a different number of digits it won’t work. So if you have a number +1 1234567890, that won’t be formatted unless you delete the +1 since it’s 11 digits.
The formatting will also only show once the contact details are saved, it won’t change the number within the editing dialog. If you’re editing the contact the phone number will appear as originally entered (ie, 1234567890). Once you save it, then you’ll see that as (123) 456-7890 on the main contact page, but going back into the edit dialog you’ll see it the same way it was originally entered again.
I know this is a little convoluted, does that make sense?

Thank you - I guess I never noticed the difference between how the number is displayed when I’m not editing the contact vs when I am.

A quick update here! We just made a minor change to the phone number formatting so it’ll format 10 digit phone numbers with a US country code (1 or +1) as well. In that case it’ll strip the country code from the formatted number, so if you enter +12345678901, when you save it that’ll be formatted as (234) 567-8901 now!
