Groups question

I use groups a lot and put all my contacts in one of about 11 different groups.

Now and again I accidentally put a contact in two different groups at the same time.

Is there any way of forcing the CRM to only allow a contact to be in one geoup at any one time?

Also is it possible to make Group a compulsory field when creating a contact? I do end up with contacts in no group at all, which I dont want.

We don’t have a way to limit a contact to being in only one group I’m afraid. The groups are more generally tags, so contacts can be tagged into multiple groups. There’s also not a way to require a group.

That said, there is a bit of a workaround that might help for both keeping contacts in only one group and requiring them. You could potentially create a dropdown custom field, instead of using groups. You can set custom fields to be required, so you’d always need to choose an option. Dropdown fields can also only have one option selected, so it’d prevent you from accidentally selecting multiple options. That said, this would be through a custom field instead of a group specifically, so you wouldn’t see it in the “Contacts” mouseover, but you could filter by the dropdown. Does that sound like it might be helpful? If so, let me know and I can share some instructions on how you can switch from groups to a custom field!

You might’ve already seen this as well, but if you do stick with groups you can filter to see contacts who are not in any group. That doesn’t help with contacts in multiple groups, but it’d let you check occasionally to make sure there isn’t anyone without a group.
